Our management team is here for support. We are here for billing questions, enrollment, any questions or concerns. Don’t hesitate to speak with us either in person, email or by telephone. We are also here to support our teachers. This allows the teachers to do their job-teaching your child!

Lisa Scheftic

Executive director and Main Street director

Lisa Scheftic, Owner and Executive Director of Discover the World Children’s Center, and original operator of Foundation’s Early Learning Center has been in the childcare industry since 1992. She opened Discover the World Children’s Center in 2009. She has since opened two other locations that support the Valley’s childcare needs from infancy up to and including school age. She takes her long standing connection to the community very seriously.

Through her leadership and expertise, Lisa has successfully brought all three of the Discover the World Children’s Center locations to the highest accreditation that can be awarded to Pennsylvania Childcare Centers (4 Star Accreditation through the Keystone STARS Program). She holds her team members to a higher level of performance and accountability. She believes in her team and supports them in their endeavors to further their education in Early Childhood and/or relevant fields.

Lisa is married, mother of five adult children and grandmother. She enjoys spending time with her family, swimming and reading. Lisa has a Child Development degree and the Pennsylvania Director Credential. She has enjoyed continuing her education throughout the years by taking college classes in the field of Early Childhood Education.

Deena Culver, Director of Discover the World Children’s Center, is a native of Sayre (South Waverly), and began her career in Early Childhood in 1997. She operated a family childcare from 1997-2004 in Texas and Nebraska. Upon returning to Texas, she worked in a military child development center within their infant and toddler classroom. Her leadership coursework included supporting student ratios, emergency procedures, children with special needs, tuition payments and so much more. She continued her study earning her bachelor’s degree in early education. Prior to moving to Pennsylvania, she was acting as the Assistant Director and Trainer at the military child development center before becoming the Director at Discover the World Children’s Center (DTW) in August 2023. She belongs to many groups that advocate for children and families and is looking forward to bridging DTW and the community.

Megan Givens

Center director at Pitney Street

Megan (Meg) Givens has been a Director at Discover the World Children’s Centers for nearly 3 years. From her extensive leadership experience, she supports a working environment that encourages team members to perform at their best. She takes great pride in the team of teachers at Discover the World and enjoys working closely with them daily. Meg is always open to conversations with DTW children and their families and is approachable to all. She thoroughly enjoys working with children and seeing their eyes light up when they discover and learn something new. Meg is married and mother of four children. She is passionate about assisting those with developmental disabilities to become all they can be. This passion is what drove her to complete her Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Disabilities from Elmira College in 2012. She enjoys most spending time with her family and her two dogs Tito and Titan.

Lindsey Burns

Assistant Director at Pennsylvania Avenue and Pitney Street

Lindsey has worked in childcare for 10 years where she served as the lead teacher in the two-year-old classroom. She now serves as an integral part in our management team as our Assistant Director and Family Accounts Specialist at Discover the World Children’s Center. Lindsey resides in Lockwood, NY with her husband and 2 children. She enjoys spending time with her family, creating memories with her children and gardening. She has nearly completed a degree in Early Childhood Education.

Sheena-Folkers

Sheena Folkers

Assistant Director at Main Street

Sheena began her 12 year teaching career teaching 3rd and 5th grade students. The next 6 years provided an opportunity to teach at Discover the World’s Pre-K Counts program. During this time, her passion for student success and creating a positive first experience in education led her to serve as the assistant director within this program.

Sheena graduated from Lock Haven University with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and later added a certificate in early childhood to her achievements.  Sheena resides in Athens, PA with her husband, daughter and son.  Outside of the classroom, she loves to read, go camping and watch her children play sports.
